Study skills workshops

Academic writing skills

This workshop is suitable for all students. Acquire knowledge on standard format of academic writing (i.e. content, context/purpose & tone), paraphrasing and the difference between an essay, a report, literature review, reflection.

APA referencing 

This workshop is suitable for nursing and humanities students. You will learn how to create a reference list, insert in-text citations (how they should be written & when they should be used) and tips to avoid common mistakes.

Chicago referencing (Part 1) 

This workshop is suitable for Commerce students. Get an overview of the referencing guide, and breakdown of the reference list. Learn more about formatting, referencing of sources with multiple authors and what various sources look like.

Chicago referencing (Part 2)

This workshop is suitable for Commerce students who have attended Chicago Referencing (Part 1). You will acquire knowledge on in-text citations (how they should be written & when they should be used) and tips to avoid common mistakes.

Searching for sources for assignments 

This workshop is suitable for all students. You will learn how to use Google Scholar; search for secondary sources and find sources based on quotes, authors, topics.

Time and conflict management 

This workshop is suitable for all students. You will learn how to handle multiple assessments due around the same time and manage conflicts within a group setting.

How to find journal articles using ProQuest 

This workshop is designed for Diploma students. You will learn effective basic search techniques and the usage of ProQuest database to find ebooks and journal articles for your assignments.

Tips to find journal articles 

This workshop is suitable for bachelor and master students. Learn how to use library catalogue and databases (including ProQuest) to find online resources such as ebooks and journal articles for your assignments.

Understanding plagiarism 

This workshop is suitable for all students. You will learn and understand academic integrity, plagiarism and its consequences. Grasp concepts on how to paraphrase and quote to avoid academic misconduct.

Organise your research with EndNote Online 

This workshop is suitable for bachelor and master students. EndNote Online is a citation software and accessible anywhere via the Internet. You will learn how to insert the correct in-text citation using APA or Chicago style directly into Word document; generate reference list and import journal articles and references.

This workshop is suitable for bachelor and master students. EndNote 20 is a citation software and accessible via the computers in the Library at Curtin Singapore campus level two. You will learn how to insert the correct in-text citation using APA or Chicago style directly into Word document; generate reference list and import journal articles and references.
